Introducing the Academic Plan

Nikke’s transcription engine is built on multiple AI technologies including speech recognition, natural language processing, and speaker diarization. Many of these technologies trace their origins to decades of foundational research conducted at universities and research institutions around the world. Speech recognition models like Whisper, the Transformer architecture, and large language models — none of these would exist without academic research.

We do not want to forget this fact. Nikke exists as a service today because researchers published papers, shared code as open source, and generously contributed their knowledge to the world. As a commercial service that benefits from these contributions, we believe it is our responsibility to give something back to the source.

Starting today, we are launching an Academic Plan for members of educational and research institutions in Japan. Simply create an account with an ac.jp email address, and the PoC plan will be applied automatically, giving you full, unlimited access to all Nikke features at no cost. No application forms, no approval process required.

This plan can be used for a wide range of academic activities: transcribing lectures, recording research interviews, preparing conference presentations, and organizing materials for paper writing. Our goal is to reduce the burden of transcription so that researchers and students can devote more of their time to the intellectual work that truly matters.

At Nikke, we value supporting activities that serve the public interest — and research and education are at the very core of that mission. The Academic Plan is our first step, and we plan to deepen our involvement with the research community going forward. We welcome your feedback and suggestions.
